Between 11-12 September, the RoMig Annual Conference “From Source to Destination, New Challenges of Migration in Central and Eastern Europe” took place at the West University of Timisoara.The conference was organized by the Romanian Migration Studies Network with the support of the Faculty of Sociology and Psychology (Department of Sociology), the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration and the East European Research and Economics Center.

Researchers, students and practitioners from Romania, Germany, Turkey, Australia, etc. working in the field of migration and social integration presented in the form of an oral presentation or a poster presentation articles on topics such as migration and social change; migration and development; diaspora and remittances; migration and transnationalism in CEE countries; migration and family; migration policies and institutional practices in new destination countries; the return and circularity of East European migration; Immigration and Integration of Immigrants into the New Europe; the link between internal and external migration, data sources and their uses in the study of migration; migration, the labor market and the labor market in developing countries; refugees from Central and Eastern Europe, etc.

The Legal Migration Association attended the conference with the poster presentation “Comparative Analysis between Forced Return and Voluntary Repatriation”, combining the long-standing expertise of return members with the basic notions of scientific research.

The mentioned poster included introductory, national and international contexts, statistics, comparative research methodology that highlighted the main similarities and differences, proposals and conclusions. We wanted to reinforce through this presentation the EU strategy to support and promote voluntary repatriation and reintegration programs in the countries of origin as sustainable policies for respecting fundamental human dignities and rights.

The migration research activities will constitute a continuous challenge for our association, a new step in defining the expertise already achieved, and by participating in such activities we will have the opportunity to experience the pulse of the phenomenon at national and international level and to we share experiences with practitioners / future practitioners, including academics.
